Privacy Policy
Last updated: 12 April 2026
Auslearn ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Auslearn mobile application and website at www.auslearn.org (together, the "Services"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our Services.
We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account Information
If you create an account, we collect:
- Email address — used for passwordless (OTP) sign-in
1.2 Onboarding Preferences
When you set up the App (whether or not you create an account), we collect:
- Learning motivation — your reason for learning Auslan (e.g. family/friend, work, study, curiosity)
- Daily practice goal — your chosen daily learning target (e.g. 5, 10, 15, or 20+ minutes)
1.3 Learning Progress Data
As you use the App, we collect and store:
- Lesson completion records (which lessons you have completed, and when)
- Quiz accuracy per lesson
- Current streak, longest streak, and last streak update date
- XP (experience points) totals
- Achievement unlock timestamps
- Challenge progress and completion history
1.4 Session Data
- Sign-in timestamps and session tokens (managed by Supabase Auth)
1.5 Usage Analytics
- App usage events (e.g. lessons started, lessons completed, subscription screens viewed), device operating system, device model, app version, and screen views, collected automatically via PostHog for product analytics. PostHog receives an internal user identifier but not your email address or payment information.
- On our website, PostHog collects page views, button clicks, referrer URL, browser type, and approximate location (country/region) for website analytics. No account or personal information is collected from website visitors.
1.6 Crash Reports and Diagnostics
- Crash reports, stack traces, device operating system, device model, app version, and internal user identifiers, collected automatically via Sentry when the App encounters an error
1.7 Subscription and Purchase Data
- Subscription status and purchase events, processed via RevenueCat. RevenueCat receives your internal user identifier to associate subscription state with your account. We do not receive or store your payment card details — these are handled by Apple App Store or Google Play.
2. Guest / Anonymous Accounts
You may use the App without creating an account. In guest mode, a randomly generated guest ID is stored on your device and used to save your progress locally and in our database. The same categories of learning data listed in section 1.3 are collected for guest users.
If you later create a full account, your guest progress is transferred to your new account.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use collected information to:
- Provide, personalise, and improve the App
- Track and display your learning progress, streaks, XP, achievements, and challenges
- Send push notifications (if you grant permission) to remind you to practice
- Diagnose crashes and fix technical issues
- Analyse usage patterns to improve the App experience
- Determine your subscription status and unlock premium content
- Comply with our legal obligations
4. Third-Party Services and Processors
We share your data with the following third-party service providers only to the extent necessary to operate the App:
| Service | Purpose | Data Shared |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase (Supabase Inc.) | Database, authentication, and file storage | All user and progress data stored in Supabase infrastructure |

| PostHog (PostHog, Inc.) | Product analytics and feature flags (app and website) | App usage events, device info, app version, screen views, internal user ID; website page views, clicks, browser type, referrer |
These providers act as data processors on our behalf and are contractually required to protect your data. We do not sell your personal information to any third party.
5. Push Notifications
If you grant notification permission, we may send you reminders to practise. You can withdraw this permission at any time in your device's system settings or within the App's Settings screen.
6. Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data (including all learning progress, achievements, and preferences) is permanently deleted from our systems. Anonymised or aggregated data that cannot identify you may be retained indefinitely.
Crash reports collected by Sentry are retained for 90 days. Subscription records held by RevenueCat are subject to their own retention policy. Analytics data collected by PostHog is retained in accordance with PostHog's data retention policy.
7. Your Rights
Under the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate personal information
- Delete your account and all associated data — you can do this at any time via Settings → Danger Zone → Delete Account in the App
- Complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) if you believe we have breached the Privacy Act
To exercise any of these rights (other than deletion, which is self-service in-app), or to make a privacy complaint, contact us at: privacy@auslearn.org
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@auslearn.org and we will delete it promptly.
9. Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted data transmission (TLS), row-level security policies in our database, and access controls. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
